From Luttrell, Tennessee, Chester "Chet" Atkins was a record producer in the 1960s. Although Atkins is credited for inventing the "Nashville sound" that rescued country music, he was criticized by other country musicians for his music's jazz influences. Atkins didn't like being labeled a "country guitarist." "I'm a guitarist, period."

Atkins won 14 Grammys, 9 Country Music Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. He also consulted with Gretsch to release a line of electric guitars from 1955-1980. In 2011, Rolling Stone ranked Atkins #21 of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
